Well what can I say, I
know I usually do horror films on here and what a comeback with Ghost hey!?
That's right chick flick? Well yes and no, I've always liked this film and
secretly I'm sure a lot of other guys have too. It's something you watch with the
girlfriend now and then using the excuse so that you can watch it too.
So Swayze and Moore are a
happy couple early in life, love and living not yet made the commitment to go
all the way yet. So some money gets mixed up where Swayze works with his
seemingly good friend Carl. Being the good sport he is Swayze tries to work it
out, much to the chagrin of Carl. The stand out part of the movie and theme tune
unchained melody is next, oh you can't help feel the love in that scene.
On their way home from an
opera they are mugged and Sam/Swayze plays tough guy and tries to stop the
mugger. A gunshot later and we Sam chasing Lopez down the street. On turning back
he realises he's been fatally shot when he sees his corpse in Moore's arms.
A bright light comes down
but he refuses to go as he loves her to much, brings a lump to my throat every
time as it's true love. Over the process of the rest of the film Sam meets and
learns from other spirits, namely the creepy underground rail guy. His visage
and demeanour I'm sure put the willies up me when I was a kid watching this
film oh I was the tender age of 8 in 1990 lol.
Well Sam eventually finds
the help of Oda May (Goldberg)a phoney psychic whose mother had the power to
speak to spirits. Somehow Sam awakens her latent abilities, He quickly finds out
it was Carl siphoning money into different accounts and that it was him who got
Sam killed (though by accident).
With the help of Oda May
over the course of the rest of the film Sam thwarts all attempts on
Demi/Goldberg's lives and the money from falling into the wrong hands. He
chases Lopez near the end who gets fatally run down, then this part is truly
trembling as we see how evil people are dealt with. Dragged kicking and
screaming into the shadows by shrieking hooded demons.
The next thing is the only
cringe worthy part in the film for me, of course it's done in the best taste.
It's the part where Oda May let's Sam take over her body yes we see Sam kissing
Moore etc but to anyone else here they'd be seeing a young white woman getting
it on with a black middle aged woman, am I right?
Any way Carls next to die
and be dragged off, then the movie ends with Moore's character finally seeing
Sam appear in the blinding white light. He says his goodbyes and I can't help
getting worked up here as I'd hate to lose my loved one so finally. I know I spoilt the ending but its 25years old..
I do like to get this out
now and then and yes in my eyes it can be quite chilling as well as funny,
serious and romantic. Finally all I finish off with is Ditto to my 4 stars
out of 5.
